CHALLENGE
STUDIOPEZ enjoys an international reputation in the field of architecture. The studio has won numerous competitions and counts on several major projects in various countries (completed or in progress). Even though one of the two co-founders is from Córdoba, STUDIOPEZ is not well known in Spain. The studio wants to participate in the dynamics of the Spanish market and is asking us for support to build brand awareness on the Iberian Peninsula.
STRATEGY
We propose to create a media presence that makes STUDIOPEZ known in the Spanish architecture sector. The origin of one of the two co-founders serves as a link, and we opt for a narrative based on his personal history and international career. We propose to showcase past and current projects and link them to solutions related to climate change. We design a campaign consisting of press releases, interviews in specialized media and general newspapers, readings and lectures in universities/architecture forums and a series of opinion articles on current issues in Spain – always with architecture at the center.
SOLUTION
We kicked off with an extensive program of face-to-face meetings with official bodies, academic institutions, construction companies and local architecture firms. We continue the campaign with interviews to introduce STUDIOPEZ to the general press, with a special focus on the sector’s vertical media. We approach the local press, where one of the co-founders talks about his origins and his connection to Córdoba. Due to the limited number of newsworthy events suited for press releases, we design a variety of opinion articles on architectural projects of public interest. In this context, STUDIOPEZ comments on the «Ciudad de la Justicia» project in Madrid or the construction challenges posed by the rapid development of the city of Málaga. STUDIOPEZ draws on its many years of experience with major projects such as the University of Bern. At the same time, we create bylines on other current topics: These include «Summer heat in classrooms» and «Architecture of educational buildings in a changing climate».
RESULTS
After an initial interview in Expansión, STUDIOPEZ gains momentum in the media and appears in the trade press (NAN Arquitectura or Vía Construcción), in regional newspapers (El Día de Córdoba, La Opinión de Málaga) and in national newspapers (ABC, El País). Occasional presentations (e.g., when visiting ceramics factories in Castellón or at the celebrations around the centenary of Rafael de la Hoz’s birth in Córdoba) attract the interest of other media, leading to interviews with Pedro Peña (partner and founding architect). Despite the relatively limited scope of the sector in the press and a meagre news flow, STUDIOPEZ quickly achieves a considerable media presence with an average of two clippings per month.
